The Poncon Family Group was started in 1978 by French Agronomist Clément-Marie Ponçon. He came to Nicaragua in 1974 on assignment by the French government in the Nicaraguan Central Bank to provide advice on developing & managing agricultural programs for the country. As an entrepreneur, Clément started his first coffee plantation in 1978 and in the early ’90s became the largest single coffee producer in Nicaragua. As local shareholders with Ecom Group, Clément, and his son Eric, started in 1997 what today is a prominent coffee processing plant in Nicaragua that handles approximately 40% of the country’s total production.
OUR STORY
Founded in 1978
Today, the Family group is lead by the second generation and continues it´s leadership role in the development of fully integrated agroforestry models. Together with their partners, they are pioneering efforts in the production of wood, cocoa and coffee under Agroforestry systems, wood manufacturing, high-end Ecotourism, Sustainable Community Development, Agronomic Research, and the Green energy sector. The ultimate mission of the Poncon Charlier Group is to positively impact society by empowering individuals and organizations to understand, learn and practice environmental and social sustainability in their work and lives, so they can share the impact with others and inspire them to follow.
OUR VISION
We are a solid and diversified group of pioneering entrepreneurs in the establishment of integral, inclusive and self-sustaining models that, based on values of social and environmental development, innovatively maximize value for our individual and institutional partners, and for all stakehoders of the value chains in which we are involved
Our Mission
We are a team of multicultural and multidisciplinary leaders who bring rich experiences, values and traditions as well as a convergence of principles that integrate differences to create shared value; and social, environmental and economic wealth. The wealth, diversity and discipline of these teams is integrated within a culture of excellence, accountability and results.
STEWARDING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Back in the late 90’s, CMP had a vision – to plant 3,000,000 hardwood trees and create the largest certified timber plantations in Nicaragua. Agroforestal was born. 2 years later, inspired by his father’s resolve and vision Eric Poncon had added to the goal – that the wood should be transformed into finished certified wood product in Nicaragua – to create a scale of manufacturing unknown in the country.
OUR RECIPE
We are committed to be part of the global community of leaders fighting climate change and promoting carbon sequestration by developing innovative, sustainable and inclusive agroforestry models with fair value distribution and circular economies in underdeveloped countries.
Agroforestry 360 model
Agroforestry operations, commoditized industry, added value, product manufacturing, retail concepts, real estate, hospitality and community development.
